    Monitoring Supermicro Servers

    Hi everyone,

I am kind of new to Zabbix and I am trying to get Zabbix into our company as a monitoring solution. Therefore I am using Zabbix to monitor a new lab project. The project consists of Dell and Supermicro systems, The Dell systems are easy to monitor using the Template Server Dell iDRAC SNMP.

The Supermicro systems seem to be a bit more tricky though. The systems are X12 systems (X12SPL-F mainboard) with an on-board BMC. The web interface shows all the needed info and user data is correct as well. The machines came with a OOB license. What is the best way to monitor those machines?

    Thank you all :-)

Hey zabbix community - is there anyone who has a good idea on this issue? ;-)

"monitor those machines" can be interpreted different ways by different people, so perhaps you would get better results if you stated some examples of what you're trying to monitor? Are you talking about hardware status like fan speeds, input temperatures, power supply voltages, etc? Since you mentioned iDRAC for the Dell I kind of assume that's what you're asking about, but it's not really clear.

There may not be a pre-defined template for the SuperMicro system, where someone else has already created all the data collection (items) and thresholds (triggers). If you are interested in gathering that level of hardware data, then you probably need to look at what's available via either IPMI or SNMP. SuperMicro should have documentation for IPMI, and hopefully they have MIBs for that model, to expose some of that data via SNMP.

Either way, you'll probably have to look at their IPMI documentation and maybe look for other templates that do something similar to what you're trying to do.

Thanks a lot tim.mooney for your feedback :-) Supermicro offers indeed a good SNMP / IPMI solution. I was hoping that someone already build a template since these systems are not so rare.
