MySQL Partitioning question

For documentation, since I'm retiring at the end of the year :-) What happens if you fail to run partition maintenance and mysql doesn't have the proper partition for new data?

I'm pretty sure it's an error message, but I don't remember it.

This: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/range-partitioning-type/ suggests that the insert error is "ERROR 1526 (HY000): Table has no partition for value" (in MariaDB)
