Templates not linking in discovery action, if multiple templates are selected

I have recently started experimenting with Zabbix and liking it quite a lot.
I have set up discovery and discovery actions, and both seem to run ok.
But I am running into an issue - for some devices, since I am not yet knowledgeable enough to edit templates myself, I would like to apply multiple templates that I have downloaded. This works OK if I do it manually, but when adding the templates via Discovery Rune, no template is applied at all. If either one is selected alone, it is linked.
The only clue I have is that some values are redundant between the templates - could that be the problem?
Is there a log that I can see to find issues with discovery and discovery actions? I don't see anything in the default log file - perhaps there is a logging level option that I can increase?
