Zabbix is making too many requests

I realized while monitoring my Firewall (OPNSense with Zabbix Agent Plugin) that all the items on my Host have a polling interval of at least 1 Minute.

So why does my firewall log say, that Zabbix makes a connection every second from the Zabbix Server to the Firewall?

I'm using the FreeBSD Template for the passive Zabbix Agent if that has any bearing (triple checked, every item is 1 minute or more)

And where would I be able to change that?
I don't want Zabbix to flood my network with that much traffic if possible.

    thanks in advance

Are there things on the other side of the firewall that Zabbix is trying to monitor? Hosts with items that it's trying to reach?

Alternately, is the DNS server that Zabbix contacts on the other side of the firewall?

How many items are monitored on that host? Since you are using passive items, Zabbix server needs to connect to the agent separately for each item (that's how the protocol works, see https://www.zabbix.com/documentation...passive-checks). Also, I believe Zabbix server may schedule the connections so that they are not executed at the same time.

I would recommend using active items. Then the agent is able to send many item values to the server at one connection.

Ohhhhhhh, okay, that would explain a lot of things.
There's currently 57 items monitored ... (and nothing behind the firewall, that will come later) I will trim them down to see if there is a correlation.

And then maybe switch to the active agent.

Would monitoring it with a zabbix proxy also help?

        Thanks a lot
