    Hard disk health monitoring

    Hello

How can I monitor the state/health of the hardware (hard disk) and get alerts (triggers) if there is a potential danger (data loss/physical damage ...) ?

    Thank you

I think it depends on whatever hardware vendor supplied management is available. For example, the sample Openmanage SNMP template can do that.

If it's a server from HP or Dell, the simplest thing is usually to use their agents and just monitor the overall health. You can use them to monitor individual controllers and disks and arrays and such, but doing the LLD (or worse individual items) for all of the possible combinations is a pain. If you just monitor the array health indicator, for example for HP, then if it triggers look at the management homepage to see what is happening, you save a lot of fairly redundant effort, since you will likely go to the agent/raid software anyway to investigate.
