I have been working with Zabbix (Server Version 6.4.5) for several days and I am very enthusiastic. I have installed agents on several computers / LXC containers and it runs very well.
Yesterday evening I installed the zabbix-agent2 (6.4.6) on an Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.4.0-150-generic x86_64 - Lenovo ThinkStation S30 - 6 core CPU / 32 GB RAM) server.
Except for the most necessary configurations I did not install any changes and did not enable encryption.
Today I noticed that the zabbix-agent2 drove the system load - when no user is logged in, it is at 1.03 to 1.04 with several running LXC containers - up to over 19 (!!!) on average.
I stopped the agent and the load dropped to normal within a few minutes. After restarting the agent, I watched the load increase steadily within minutes...
Since the server is "mission critical" at the moment, I can't do any further tests and experiments with it, so I uninstalled the agent.
My first thought was if the Zabbix server version 6.4.5 can't handle the agent 6.4.6. However, I had to discard this thought because I have three other machines (all Ubuntu 20.04 or 22.04) that are also freshly set up and have the agent version 6.4.6 installed and no problems.
I have a hardware-identical S30 here that I need to reinstall this weekend, and then I will do tests with it if necessary.
Interesting - from my point of view - is that the workstation I'm working with
(ThinkStation S20 - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz - 6 core / 24 GB RAM - Xubuntu 22.04.3 LTS - Kernel Linux 6.2.0-26-generic (x86_64))
which has the zabbix-agent2 (6.4.5) installed, does not show this behavior.
All my agents are working in passiv mode.
Could it be that this is related to this closed bug-report: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-23221
Maybe someone has an idea and can tell me what is happening ...
