Many macros in map icon labels turn to *UNKNOWN* when items are infrequently updated

I have a map with many icons which has many macros in their labels, as you can see here:

It's a small image (cut out from a bigger image) of servers with versions of packages that we look closely into. Where ever it's empty, it means that the package is not installed. As you can see, some packages on the first two servers are more recent than the ones on the last two servers. Zabbix is really cool that since all these versions were done in macros, I only needed to copy the whole content of the label once and paste it back also once using mass update and voila! In the beginning, I set the update intervals to 20 minutes to get a quick result of what I'm putting in. Everything was okay, so I set it back to 86400 (1 day) because we don't need a constant update on the version of packages every hour. The many of the packages began turning into *UNKNOWN*. Is there a reason why? And is there a solution or workaround?

I've noticed in the process that the screen also has a "Data Overview" resource which can do the same thing without any effort at all (so this is amazingly even easier but it doesn't allow changing the order of the list), but all the *UNKNOWN* packages that would show in the map before are not indicated here at all, so that one cannot tell the difference if a package is not installed or the Zabbix server just don't know about it. So overall, it would be best to see no or very few *UNKNOWN* packages, but I would rather see them than be misled to believe that these packages are not installed at all. And this is pretty important because someone else will be making a report on this for our clients.

Can any one help me here? Whichever solution is acceptable. For item type information, I chose character instead of text because my items are short, could that be the problem? By the way, I'm using 3.0.2.

I'm new to Zabbix (and monitoring programs in general) and reallly hope my office uses it. I'm very impressed so far though by this free open source software. Can't believe it's this good, simple and pretty, yet free.

I'm still having problem with this. Any suggestion how to make the *UNKNOWN*s disappear, anyone?

It turns out that some items are recorded as missing. Here is an example, three items (amc, announcer and announcer-venita) are missing from a map label of a host:

The same exact three items are also missing from Monitoring>Latest Data (filtered for the host) and would only appear if "Show items without data" is ticked (and as you can see the Last Check column is empty as if the items have never been checked):

But if I click on history (for example here 'amc'), there are actually some data from yesterday and the day before that (today is the 25th):

My question is, how come zabbix considers these items as empty when they clearly have values from yesterday? (The reason why I still want yesterday's data to show is because these are application versions and they rarely ever change, probably only once every few months, so I don't want zabbix to update their values every one hour, because there are many applications and many hosts. Another reason is that I don't want these items to turn into *UNKNOWN*s just because the host is for any reason disconnected for a day or two when we know that application versions don't change in months.). Suggestions anyone?
