    Zabbix SNMPv3 and Dell iDrac

    Hello,

I've configured SNMPv3 on a Dell iDrac, I cannot get any SNMP template working on the Zabbix server.
    - IP
    - Port 161
    - SNMP version: V3
    - Security name: snmp_user
    - Security level: authPriv
    - Authentication protocol: SHA512 (or SHA1, tested both)
    - Privacy Protocol: AES256 (tested 512 as well)
    - Both Authentication and Privacy passphrase used

    I've checked with snmpwalk:
    Code:
    snmpwalk -v3 -l authPriv -u <snmp_user> -a SHA -A <pass> -x AES -X <pass> <some_ip>
    Works fine

I've configured the host with SNMPv2 on the Zabbix server, also works fine.

Are there any other settings needed to get this working on the server side?

Funny you should post this.. I just spent a whole day testing different combinations of SNMPv3 configurations for my iDRAC server monitoring with Zabbix. The settings i used below appear to be stable and working, hopefully it helps! This was tested on a Dell R740xd.

    Zabbix Settings:
    • Zabbix Template: Dell iDRAC by SNMP
    • SNMP version: SNMPv3
    • Context Name: BLANK/NA
    • Security Name: zabbix
    • Security level: authPriv
    • Authentication protocol: SHA1
    • Authentication passphrase: simple test password (testing complex passwords now)
    • Privacy protocol: AES128
    • Privacy passphrase: simple test password (testing complex passwords now)
    • Use combined requests: checked

    iDRAC Settings:
    • SNMP Service: Enabled (iDRAC Settings -> SNMP Agent -> Enabled)
    • SNMP Protocol: SNMPv3 (iDRAC Settings -> SNMP Agent -> Enabled)
    • iDRAC Firmware Version: 7.00.00.171
    • Username: zabbix
    • UserRole: none
    • SNMP v3: enabled
    • Auth Type: SHA
    • Privacy Type: AES
    • Auth Passphrase: minimum of 8 chars
    • Privacy Passphrase: minimum of 8 chars

PS - Make sure the idrac Auth/Privacy passphrase password doesnt contain and special characters it appears that breaks the SNMP connection from my testing. I was able to set a 15 character alphanumeric password with no issues.

Yes this was our issue, special characters, who would have guessed...

Something I noticed, I cloned another iDRAC host and couldn't get the SNMP walk to work at all. Reviewed all the settings between systems multiple times and everything was exact. I then deleted the cloned host and set up a brand new one. It started working instantly, so if you're scratching your head on why it's not working, make sure you also (in addition to all this amazing information) set up the host from scratch.
