Not getting Zabbix Agent downtime trigger alerts

    Hello folks,

I have a Zabbix Server in the cloud, with agents installed on machines all over the place on local LAN's, other cloud platforms, etc. All my agents show up for the hosts and report as green. However the Zabbix Agent downtime alerts are not getting triggered and I'm not getting alerts for when a host goes down.

I have the standard/built in Trigger setup for all my remote agents as part of the templates:

    Code:
    {Template App Zabbix Agent:agent.ping.nodata(2m)}=1
Does "agent.PING" actually mean the Zabbix Server will ping the Agent, which of course won't work 99% of the time because all my agents are on firewalled disparate and disjointed networks separate from where my Zabbix Server is running.

I'm trying to understand how to get alerts for down servers when the Zabbix Server only has inbound reporting metrics generated from the Agent.

    Thanks!
