VMware template not monitoring ICMP Ping correctly

    Hello,

I've been using the Zabbix built-in options of VMware monitoring.

So under "Template Virt VMware" I've put both of my vcenter servers, it then auto-discovered my clusters and ESXi servers and assigned them the template "Template Virt VMware Hypervisor".

Now, this template seems to have the "ICMP Ping" template linked to it, which is good, but upon checking I see it's only actually pinging the vCenter servers and not the actual ESXi servers! When I look at the actual hosts that were discovered, I see that their "visible name" is their actual IP, but their agent interface is the vCenter IP address.

I can add these hosts again manually and assign them the "ICMP Ping" template, because I luckily do not have a lot of them, but this seems like a pretty big oversight...

    Any explanations/advice?

Are you sure the icmp ping comes via the Virt VMWare template? Have you changed the templates manually? i'm asking because in my implementation the VMWare templates aren't linked to any other templates. Therefore i don't have any icmp pings in the default built-in VMWare monitoring...

Either way, linking any template to the ESXi servers actually just applies it to the vCenter server.
