Zabbix Appliance 3.2.6 vmdk - Ubuntu display manager fails to start

I downloaded the Zabbix Appliance 3.2.6 (latest version) from the Downloads section and started the VM on VirtualBox. The OS boots into console mode. I checked the boot log and it shows the display manager (lightdm) failed to start. Zabbix server and mysql server started fine but it was the OS GUI which failed to start. Is this a known issue? Does anyone know how to fix this?

What I have tried so far:
    1. Re-install lightdm
    2. Re-configure lightdm as the display manager

Everytime the failure is with lightdm service. I suspect it has something to do with autologin.

    Hi !

If you have some luck try just a simple

    Code:
    dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
    service lightdm start
    or

    Code:
    apt-get update
    apt-get upgrade
    apt-get install aptitude
    aptitude reinstall lightdm
    what about this command :

    Code:
    service lightdm status
You can install GDM too an other display manager

    Code:
    aptitude install gdm
ps : sorry for my poor english

Thanks for the suggestions Wick. I tried above yesterday including the GDM and didn't have any luck booting past the console mode. I abandoned the VM and am installing all packages from scratch on a vanilla Ubuntu VM. I will keep checking this thread since the appliance is hosted for everyone and someone else might run into the problem.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I have found to get the GUI for the Zabbix appliance you will need to run
        sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
It looks like the Desktop GUI is not fully installed with the appliance.
