    zabbix.sock file keeps disappearing

    Hi,

We recently upgraded our underlying OS from Ubunut 22.04 to 24.04 and since that time the zabbix.sock file from /var/run/php keeps missing causing the system to not work. I recreate the file with the following command and the system start again but then about a week later will be missing and zabbix will stop working.

The command I run to get the system back up and running is - sudo ln -s /etc/alternatives/php-fpm.sock /var/run/php/zabbix.sock

Anyone know why the file would keep getting deleted or go missing?

    Thanks

/var/run is a symlink to /run, which is a tmpfs, so a symlink you create there by hand is wiped on every reboot. If you run last reboot, the dates will probably line up with your outages (a weekly patch reboot would explain the roughly one-week pattern).

The real problem is that nothing creates zabbix.sock anymore. It isn’t meant to be a symlink. php-fpm creates it as a real socket when it starts a dedicated [zabbix] pool whose config says listen = /var/run/php/zabbix.sock. The Zabbix frontend package puts that pool config in a directory that depends on the PHP version:
