history_log has entries older than the set history for check

I've noticed that the history_log table is getting really large in the Zabbix database.

After looking at the details I see that some checks write in the history_log table.
The strange thing is that these checks are all set with the "History storage period" of 1 day, yet the table holds data which is several weeks old.

I've even disabled the checks and used the clear history option (from the overall template), but the data is still in the database

I must be overlooking something.
How can I get rid of the old data (automatically after 1 day)?

Is the housekeeper enabled ? Maybe housekeeper overrides item history period ?

Thanks Kaspars,

It seems that: Override item history period was enabled in the housekeeping settings.

This caused the problem.
I've also found that these tables can be changed to compressed tables in MySQL/MariaDB, this saves some more disk space.
