Experience integrating HP/Compaq servers hpasm/hpsmh snmp and zabbix

    Hi guys,

I started this thread mainly because I'm interested in knowing now many people out there have had success integrating zabbix with HP server monitoring and to what extent. I'm not just talking about zabbix-agent and what it can do on its own, but also integrating the fancy hardware level monitoring that HP systems can do, hardware like fan status, state of the RAID array, power supply redundancy status failed/OK sort of thing, etc etc.

I have some ideas about doing it, but they involve a bit of scripting to set up, so I would love if some people were kind enough to share their success stories before I embark on my coding adventures...

    thanks in advance.

I'm also looking for ways to do this. I'm really new to Zabbix, but it's working beautifully so far. Even my boss, who doesn't care much for FOSS, seems to be impressed.

In addition to RAID status, I need to be able to monitor whether or not a backup was made on the DAT72 tape drive, and to make matters worse, all 500 servers are behind firewalls that I can't alter, so I don't think I can use SNMP.

I would be interested in integration of new SNMP based templates into ZABBIX. Please let me know if you have anything useful.

Check the templates on the wiki. I think someone already implemented the HP snmp checks based on the ones I did for Dell.

          Yes,

there is already a template, I`m usint that for a Compaq.
It is quering the SNMP values for the Smart Array controller.

I see, the template is already included into 1.4.2. Thank you!

              Hi,

I found an interesting script to monitor temperatures on HP systems (Linux).
It uses a command line and needs perl but can be modified to use a shell, instead, I guess.

              Here is the URL
              for it.

I did not try it, though, so YMMV.

              Regards

              Norbert.
