    SNMP Help

I have the Zabbix_Server 1.1.7 installed on opensuse 10.2 and Zabbix_agent installed on an xp machine that is working fine. But i cannot seem to get SNMP to work.

    I compiled the Zabbix_server with --with-net-snmp

I setup a new host using the snmp_t template and have tried adding items using the OID I get from snmpwalk and snmpget I am running from the Zabbix Server.

The host always says monitored but Not Avalible and I get no data from any of the items.

It seems like Zabbix is not polling the SNMP host that I have setup. Is there a way to check this? (I have stopped the firewall on the server to make sure that its not causing the problem)

Is there something I am missing in the setup?

    Thanks for your help.

    Things to check

I have 1.1.7 and snmp working, after some bumps, on RedHat ES3x. Some thoughts:

Make sure you can use the snmp utilities from linux command line. Your installation may not be correct.

Make sure you are using ip address and port 161 on your host.

Make your host not monitored until you set up your first OID item, then enable it. Somehow, it works better that way.

Try the snmpv2 agent--it worked best for me.

Make sure your community name is set correctly.

Check your data type--I am using numeric integer 64-bit for all numeric data.

The key must be unique, but make it look like the other keys for ease of use. For example, I check the bgp status on a Cisco router using the key cisco.bgp.status[10.1.0.3].

    Good luck!

You should first check via snmpget or snmpwalk to see if your snmp installation is correct. Use man for usage information.
