    Ok Alexei,

    At the very beginning, you [ the developpers of zabbix ] tell that Zabbix 1.4 will be released at the start of year 2007 and that an upgrade process will be available to move smootly from 1.1.x to 1.4.

    We [ the brand new happy of users ] were a little bit disappointed by the very late release of the 1.4, waiting for stacked graph, better template system.

    But at that time, i was very confident to get a high quality 1.4 release.

    I must admit that i'm not very happy with that 1.4, so buggy, with a very bad upgrade process.

    Earing right now that it's "normal" that we loose user permissions coz the overall logic have been changed is not a good behavior for the Zabbix's community.

    We all believed that Zabbix is a fresh new very nice software. Some concepts are really greate BUT Zabbix must keep the same level against the quality of the different release.

    In my company, i continue to "push" Zabbix against Oracle Grid Control. But how long will it go ???

    After using Zabbix for month, keeping the already collected datas is a very important fact to keep on using such software.

      Yes, I think it is absolutely normal to replace a complex and confusing implementation by something that has good design, makes implementation much easier, scales well and is more transparent. In the same time, I'm doing all my best to avoid making any changes which breaks compatibility with older releases.

        are you sure you lost _users_ ? that's very weird and should not have happened (at least they were preserved here).

          Just for anyone looking for this thread - I updated from 1.1.7 with no problems. I compiled the new binaries, ran the update.sql script, and then had to manually run the administrator type upgrade:

          Code:
          update users set type=3 where alias='Admin';
          That gave the user admin access to the install. Works like a charm now

            I'm sorry, It was my mistake. All is where it's supposed to be, the users are still there and just with the update of the database was enough.

            Thank you Alexei, and everyone involved.

              maps without backgrounds are not imported. looking at svn changelog, it seems this still isn't fixed.
