curl requirement clarification

Just a quick question...

The curl requirement for the web monitoring, is this a requirement for php?
This would mean the php would have to be configured with it as an extension.
Or is this just for the zabbix, then which php would not need an extension.

Curl libraries are required for ZABBIX server only. Not need for php-curl (?) module.
