zabbix_server crashes on startup

Compiled 1.4 from source on Debian 3.1 Intel.

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/zabbix --with-mysql=/opt/mysql/bin/mysql_con
fig --with-libcurl=/usr/local/bin/curl-config --enable-server --enable-agent

zabbix_server quits immediately. strace ends with:

I essentially took the example config file and used that. I also tried uncommenting the options and had the same problem.

A bit stuck now! Any ideas?

Idea: Try compling without all the extras, maybe just enable-server. See if that makes a difference.

Compiled with mysql and server (latter requires the former). No change.
