    Actions on Zabbix 1.4.1

    Dear all

    I followed following step to create an email notification for my FTP site

    Administration -> Users
    New user:
    - Alias: halomoan
    - Name: Halomoan Zhou
    - Surename: halomoan
    - User type: ZABBIX User
    - Groups: Network Administrators
    - Media:
    - Type: Email
    - Send To: [email protected]
    - When active: 1-7,00:00-23:59
    - Use if severity: ALL OPTIONS ARE SELECTED
    - Status: Enabled
    - Language: English (GB)
    - Auto-logout (in sec=>0 - disable): 900
    - URL (after login): <empty>
    - Refresh (in seconds): 30

    Configuration -> Actions
    New Action:
    - Name: Test
    - Event source: Triggers
    - Type of calculation: AND/OR
    - Condition:
    - Trigger = "FTP server is down on ZABBIX Server"
    - Trigger value = "TRUE"
    - Operation:
    - Send message to Group "Network administrators"
    - Status: Enabled

    Now in my Monitoring tab, I can see

    Monitoring -> Triggers

    - FTP server is down on ZABBIX Server : TRUE
    - SEVERITY: Average

    Oh god, my FTP server down. But I don't get any email and

    Monitoring -> Actions
    No actions found

    How to get the Actions works? Did I miss something in my configuration?

    Thank you.

    Dear All

    I want to update this problem.

    I just made a simple test where I changed the Actions' condition like below and leaved the rest as is

    Configuration -> Actions
    New Action:
    - Name: Test
    - Event source: Triggers
    - Type of calculation: AND/OR
    - Condition:
    - Trigger severity = "High"
    - Operation:
    - Send message to Group "Network administrators"
    - Status: Enabled

    I stopped the zabbix_agentd, I got the email notification !!!
    I started back the zabbix_agentd, I also got the email notification

    If I change the condition to
    - Trigger severity = "Average"

    And stop my FTP service, I got nothing

    So I think my configuration is correct but don't know why the Actions only work for Server Unreachable event but not for FTP service and other services (HTTP/SMTP etc)

    Is it a BUG ???

    Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks

        Dear All

        I tried to do my best to understand what is the problem.

        Now this is my trick to solve it.

        In Configuration -> Triggers I cloned the Template_Linux:FTP server is down on ZABBIX Server to FTP server is down on ZABBIX Server
        without change anything.

        I got email notification now if my FTP goes down !!! Horeeeyyy

        Now the question, what happen to the Template_Linux:FTP server is down on ZABBIX Server below Configuration -> Triggers ?

        Why we cannot use it for alerting ?
        Thanks

          Hello,

          I've got the same problem. For a trigger that is inherited from a template, the trigger is fired, but no alert is sent (email). If I clone the trigger (like in the previous post), that is if the trigger is defined for the host only (not inherited from the template), I get the email. Mmh.

          I've looked at the code for the action, but no luck so far. Looks like a bug to me. Searching the forums, it looks like that I'm not the only one. Otherwise great tool.

          Best regards

          Jean-Marc

            Actions not working - 1.4.1

            I too have the problem of Actions not working in v1.4.1. It seems that in order to get an Action to work i have to recreate it and add a condition of Trigger value = "TRUE" to begin with followed by the Trigger = "LAN - Failure". If i do it the opposite way round the Action doesnt work.

            (A) Trigger = "LAN - Failure"
            (B) Trigger value = "TRUE"

            When i do this the Action works initially but then it seems to stop working again, typically around a day later. I didn't have this issue in 1.4 and i haven't changed anything regarding the Trigger or Action conditions since upgrading to 1.4.1 so i can only presume it's a bug.

            Has anyone else had this problem?

              Because it is not supported currently. Actions defined for templates do not affect alerting in any way, they are ignored.

              I hope, that actions based on templates will be implemented in 1.4.x.

                Debian etch + Zabbix Version 1.4.1 + Mysql + postfix

                I tried to setup actions lots of times, but always failed.

                --------------Action setting ---------------------------------------
                Name:
                FTP is down on Server XXX

                Conditions:
                Trigger = "FTP server is down on XXX" (the trigger is cloned from Tempate )
                Trigger value = "TRUE"

                Operations:
                Send message to User "Admin"

                Status:
                Enabled
                ------------------------------------------------------

                ------------user setting (mail part)------------
                Media:
                Email
                [email protected]
                1-7,00:00-23:59;
                NIWAHD Enabled
                ------------------------------------------------------

                ------------Media type setting------------------
                Description: Email
                Type : Email
                SMTP server: localhost
                SMTP helo : localhost
                SMTP email : zabbix@localhost
                -----------------------------------------------------

                I can't see any message in page "monitoring" -> "Actions"
                even FTP is down, I didn't got any message

                Another thing:

                once I started zabbix, I saw 3 message in my mail.logs. these messages happed peer minute:

                postfix/smtpd[31310]: connect from localhost[127.0.0.1]
                postfix/smtpd[31310]: lost connection after CONNECT from localhost[127.0.0.1]
                postfix/smtpd[31310]: disconnect from localhost[127.0.0.1]

                but once I stoped zabbix, this messages went away

                any suggestions?
                Thanks

                  Try connecting to port 25 manually and talking to it. See if that works.

                    thanks for your reply,

                    I tested to connect to 25 port.

                    $ telnet localhost 25
                    Trying 127.0.0.1...
                    Connected to localhost.gfed.net.
                    Escape character is '^]'.
                    220 XXX ESMTP Postfix

                    and I tested to mail to someother email address by "mutt", it works

                    also, the postfix is for Subversion mail notification, everyday I can receive lots of Subversion messages for the server once somebody committed.

                      Another Action/Email Postfix issue

                      My Zabbix server (v1.4.2) is Running Fedora 7 with Postfix MTA, I also get the "lost connection after CONNECT" maillog entries. I used to run Zabbix (v1.1.4) on another host (Fedora Core 5 with Postfix) and the emails worked with no problems.

                      On the new Fedora 7 box I get the logwatch emails, and even ones I send manually. I also cannot find any reference on the web that is helpfull.

                      My Current postfix config is default, except for the relay host configuration.
