We've been running Zabbix v1.1 for a little over a year now, and I've been wanting to upgrade to v1.4, however I've noticed that my DB is 34GB in size. Most of this is in the history table which is about 31GB and over 422 million rows. I am only monitoring about 40 hosts, and most history is set to 7 days with trending for 365 days. Are there any DB utilities to validate the history table data? Or is this size normal for the number of hosts I have ?

Sounds like the housekeeper is either disabled or broken. What version of 1.1 are you running? I know in the early versions the housekeeper was broken (maybe up to 3 or 4). I know that in 1.1.6 it was working fine so you may want to upgrade to at least 1.1.6, let the housekeeper run and then upgrade to 1.4.1 or greater.
Another thing you can try is to write a delete statement that deletes all rows in history that are over the 7 day period.
Also, I am pretty sure that the trends are updated all the time and graphs are based off of the history table for the first 24 hours and then the trends table for data greater than 24 hours old. If you can stand loosing that 24 hours you could just delete all the rows in history.

Trends are updated in real-time. So, even if you delete all detailed history (tables 'history*'), trend data will be preserved.Originally posted by swaterhouseAlso, I am pretty sure that the trends are updated all the time and graphs are based off of the history table for the first 24 hours and then the trends table for data greater than 24 hours old. I transferred over my v1.1 data to a new test 1.4.1 server and fired it up...I was expecting that after an hour or so the housekeeper process would go and clean things up as there was an indication of issues in the v1.1 version. This was not the case. Am I correct in assuming that the housekeeper should be cleaning up anything > 7 days as per most of my item config?Comment

Yes, you're right. But this won't happed immediately, it may take days or even weeks.Originally posted by drose12Am I correct in assuming that the housekeeper should be cleaning up anything > 7 days as per most of my item config?Comment
