    SNMP discovery fails

    Hi Guys/Gals,

I have stumbled upon Zabbix after trying Zenoss and a few others and this looks like what I am after . The problem is, I cannot get SNMP discovery to work . I have set my IP range, selected both SNMP 1 & 2, added my community string but nothing appears in the monitoring/discovery page. (selecting HTTP finds them, but I need SNMP for monitoring the Switches). In the log file there is continuous:

    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]
    17022:20070912:122019 SNMP error [1]

I followed the Ubuntu guide in the Wiki on a fresh clean install. (http://www.zabbix.com/wiki/doku.php?...:ubuntuinstall)

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Many Thanks.

    Chris

    It's not just SNMP

The discovery of machines with Agents on also seems to fail. Manually adding a host with an agent or a host with SNMP works fine. Are there any issues with the discovery in general in 1.4.2?

    - I dont really fancy adding every piece of equipment manually

    Thanks

    Chris

I think you need to set at least an OID when using SNMP discovery. After doing that, SNMP devices where finally seen in my Zabbix setup. Well, Ok, this brings me other problems (here: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4629).

Concerning Zabbix agent discovery, it's seems to be fine for 1.4.2-win32/1.4.2-linux from source/1.1.x ubuntu versions, according to my ongoing tests.

btw, I'm testing zenOSS core too, and have some network setting issue, so...
