Function icmppingsec. need to use fping -c3 not just -c1

Alot of network items dont priority to answer ICMP pings and they can return values on the first ping that dont really tell you how fast it is in reality.

But if Zabbix can do like pfing -c3 instead of -c1 then the numbers will be alot more correct to the real speed.

How can I make zabbix to use pfing -c3 (3 pings) instead of 1 that it is using now when i select icmppingsec ?

It would be greate to have a custom "c" value so you can use Zabbix instead of smokeping to monitor lossy connections.

And I dont understand why zabbix use fping at all...

      ping www.google.com -c3 -i0.3 give all you need to know (-i0.3 = faster pings) (-c3 = 3 pings)

and to check if a hoste is up or not.. simple

      ping 192.168.10.238 -c3 -i0.3 | grep -c "100% packet loss"

      1= down 0=up

But now Iam in big need to get accurate ping times in zabbix, is there a way ? (see original question)

Because fping is more efficient and can ping several hosts simultaneously.

Alexei you have any solution to the problem then ?

need fping to send more then just one ping, need atleast 3 pings to a host to get a correct ping answer.

I wouldn't call it a "Problem" it's more likely a "Feature Request" but nevertheless it would be a great improvement to have custom fping attributes! Right now icmppingsec is quite unusable because sending out just one ping can't give you adequate results in an "real" enviroment. So please add a feature to have custom fping attributes on a per host basis.

I could easy fix this myself but cos external scripts dosent work like they should I can just sit and wait for a solution

Guess iam forced to install nagios soon again cos I have around 150 hosts that wait for a proper ping time check in my network.

I could never belive that Zabbix that been around for some time dont even manage to do a correct ping or allow external scripts to work.

I wish I had read the forums more before I decided to move from nagios to Zabbix.

i agree with several pings idea, but userparameters do work.

Well "userparameters" do work, but "externalchecks" do NOT work ( see ->
                        http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6984).
So the only solution would be to install an agent on the Zabbix Server and add an useritem for every Host which needs to be pinged, which is just a workaround and not very comfortable.

Kinda hard to install agents in switches or other network stuff that dont run a OS that dont allow and installations.

not icmppingsec exactly, but you could add userparameter which would call a script.
                              a script would return something like "fping -c 3 localhost 2>&1 | tail -n 1 | awk '{print $8}' | cut -d/ -f2".

of course, this is far from optimal solution - maybe it is easier to modify sources for now to always use 3 pings instead of one.
