    icmpping using hostnames

I seem to have a problem when using icmpping (fping) checks with hostnames and dynamic DNS. It appears that fping isn't returning 0 when the hostname doesn't resolve to an IP address. Here's what I'm seeing: host SERVER uses DHCP to get an IP address and then registers itself with DDNS. When host SERVER is down and I look at the "lastest values" for SERVER, it looks like the ICMP Ping "last value" remains 1, but the "last check" is the last time that the name resolved to an IP address. When SERVER comes back up, it appears that the ping works again. What this means for me is that ZABBIX doesn't ever see the system as "unreachable," which is not correct.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is there a fix for this?

No, it seems you are doing everything correct. This has to be fixed.

      icmpping not working

      Hi

I noticed that icmpping stops to work when i upgrade zabbix from 1.4.2 to 1.4.4.
Even after upgrade from 1.4.4 to 1.4.5 situation does not change.

I try to create fake host "aaaaabbbbbb" or "blablabla" and zabbix always reports that this hosts are available, even when fping is runnable from zabbix user and reports that these hosts are unreachable or not resolvable.

I am going to compare source codes for pinger.c, may be this will help to find problem.

      Regards
