Upgrade to 1.4.2 causes Email Problems

    I upgraded from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2.
There is one strange problem that i am facing.

Almost after 2 hours of notifications, the delivery of the emails stopped working.
I could see the alarms being raised and emails created but they were not DELIVERED.
The status of emails was “not sent”.
No error was generated at the logs or the front-page.

I fail to understand the problem, as the system seemed to work fine before the upgrade.
Maybe there is a dependency in the upgrade which I am missing.

The configuration for the Media Types is:

    SMTP server: 'localhost',
    SMTP helo: 'localhost',
    SMTP email: 'Zabbix@localhost'

    I would appreciate any help.

Test your mail server. Open a terminal and type 'tail -f /var/log/mail.log'. Open another window and send a test message such as 'mail -s "test" [email protected]in'. Perhaps the problem is your smtp daemon and not zabbix.

        Thank you for your replies!

I dug further into the problem and had the following results:

I have SMS and Email Notifications.
The emails seem to work fine, until an SMS is generated.
After the SMS is sent, the Emails stop working.

I could see the alarms being raised and emails created but they were not DELIVERED.
The status of emails was “not sent”, without any indication of error or warning.

I turned off the SMS delivery, rebooted the system and Emails started working fine!

This is due incorrect handling of timeouts in SMS code in 1.4.2. FYI It is already fixed in pre 1.4.3.
