    Monitoring DLink Switch's CPU

    Hello!
Tried to create a new item to monitor DGS 1250-28's CPU but the item is reported as "Not supported" although I can successfully query it in snmpwalk in the iReasoning MIB browser:

Would you please tell me what's wrong with this item definition?

    Thank you in advance,
    Michael

How Can We Help You? Should you have any issues with our software, any questions or suggestions, feel free to contact technical support. Please be as complete

IP Host network monitor gives free MiB Browser and it will help you to retrieve the OID value from your D-Link switch. Please verify it first.

        Hello, vijayk!

There're no problems in getting this OID either in snmpwalk or (for example) in IP Host Monitor:

        - the problem is why Zabbix keeps saying "Not supported"???

P.S. Thank you very much for the link - I 'liked the IP Host Monitor very much!

        Regards,
        Michael

Did you try other OIDs? Does it works?

Yes, it does! Here;s the test:

... can't understand why these particular OIDs (may be some other either, of course) can't be obtained ((

            .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.3
            .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.4
            .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.5

Is it possible that Zabbix can "see" OIDs in one "OID subtree" and can't in some other?

            Regards,

Please see the very first picture of this post - it's the item for .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.4 but the same goes for all others!

Did you check with Type of information from Numeric(Unassign) to (floating) and then check?

Vijayk, thank you so much for the IP Host Network Monitor - it really helped!!!

I once again looked into the monitor's OID field that I created earlier and noticed that the OID I had entered initially - .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.5 - has turned into .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.5.1.1

                      - when I entered the longer OID into Zabbix it started working!!!

Do you know what's the difference between .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.5 and .1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.165.1000.5.1.7.1.5.1.1 and why some programs (snmpwalk, for example) do work with the short version while others (Zabbix) don not?

Nice to hear that zabbix received the data. And no Michael, I don't have idea about particular OID because all devices have different OID dependence on hardware manufacturer.

Walk and get are different.. if you use walk, it will return all the branched out OIDs and their values (you just happen to have one here).. get gives you exactly that one OID-s value... That's why you cannot use same "short" one, that gives you some values with walk, in OID field in zabbix

Cyber, thank you for the reply!

"get gives you exactly that one OID-s value." - am I getting it right that "snmpwalk [get exactly that OID]" does return the OID's values because its default behaviour is like this:

                                "
An object identifier (OID) may be given on the command line. This OID specifies which portion of the object identifier space will be searched using GETNEXT requests. All variables in the subtree below the given OID are queried and their values presented to the user. Each variable name is given in the format specified in variables(5).
                                "
...and in fact snmpwalk {some OID} means "get that OID\.1. and >" ?

If the best practice in adding snmp checks in Zabbix is "first check it in snmpwalk and then create the item" then you can eventually end up in the situation like described above: I do see that OID "works" in snmpwalk but I don't know beforehand how many [.1] I should add to the OID to get it working in Zabbix It won't be a big problem anyway, you just need to remember about it,

                                Regards,Michael
