    ping reliability for monitoring uptime

    Hi to all.

I'm monitoring a router for uptime with icmpping to know when the connection goes down.

The problem is sometimes zabbix reports as down when the router logs says it's ok.

What I want to ask is:

In accordance with rfc4560 the ping should return within 3 seconds or it will send a timeout value.

And reading the source (think is it) at cvs Zabbix won't check this timeout as UNKNOWN instead of ON. as it does now.

I think the history of downtimes (failed pings) is not to trust because if the network has a lot of congestion the ping value will exceed the 3 seconds of timeout.

This case could be true ?

    Thanks in advance !

    Ping timeouts happing to me

It does appear that pings will timeout after 3 seconds. I have about 30 routers that I monitor with icmpping and I've had to set my triggers to only activate after no response for the last 4 queries (using icmpping.last(#4)) otherwise I get far too many false reports. This also happens for smtp and other simple checks.

Apparently this will be fixed in 1.1.2
