template problem

I install 1.1beta5.

I created new template TESTTEMPLATE. Add Items to template.
If I create new host NEWHOST "Use templates of this host" set to TESTTEMPLATE.
And Items dosn't coping to new host.

If I use linkage between TESTTEMPLATE and NEWHOST, and add items to TESTTEMPLATE, them coped. But how copy items to new host from exiting template?

In 1.1beta6 all the same.

Hi,

you have to linkage the template. Go to "configuration" "hosts" and choose "Hosts/template linkage". Then choose the group where you added your new template and choose your new template. In 1.1beta6 click "Create Linkage" and choose your new template. Press "save". Know you can use this template to create new hosts with him.

Try it.

OK this is what I tried with 1.1beta6:

1) Create a template with the items I wanted
2) Create a new host and in the process also created a new group.
3) Went to the host/template linkage and chose my new group and linked the template I created in step-1. It listst the host and template associated with it.

I go to the hosts list and click on the items for the host I created in step-2. But I don't see the items associated with the host. What am I doing wrong?

That is correct, i do the same.
After this step i went to the "host/template linkage" and choose my new template. Then i push the button "Create new linkage". Know i choose my new template from the drop-down box in the middle and press save.

2) Create a new host and in the process also created a new group.

Know you have to do your second step. Don't forget to mark your new group and choose your created template out off the drop-down box.

This works fine on my zabbix. Try it.

yup I did exactly what you said and even checked the database to make sure that the linkage was right. And the entries are there but somehow doesn't reflect on the web interface. But maybe there is some other checks I can do to make sure something is not wrong?

Do you have issues with triggers? When I use the method you outline with linking a template back to itself, I have issues with trigggers. When I add a new trigger the trigger is added to the template twice.

template and trigger experience in beta6

I had some fun with templates and triggers last night. I've been using zabbix, but because of some of the incomplete features I never used templates. I figured now was a good time to give it a shot since the software is suppose to be relative bug free. (hehe)

I linked all my existing hosts to a template and since my hosts were already created, they didn't have the triggers that existed in the template. I figured if I re-saved the items in the template, it would propogate into the hosts. This sort of worked, but I started to get duplicate triggers in my hosts. I couldn't clean it up so I broke out the SQL command line and deleted all the triggers with the specified description. I then created the triggers in the template and that seems to propgate them into the hosts okay.

Overall, I think this could be improved. It seems that there should be some intelligence to avoid all the duplicates that were created.

I think I am having the same problem as the origional poster. I looked at your screenshots and I am able to do the same, the problem is, the hosts selected template does not "save"

This is what I am trying to do:
Create Host
Name Net1
Group Servers
Use IP 127.0.0.1
Port 10050
Status Monitored
Use templates of this host: Host.Unix
<SAVE>

After selecting a template and saving, once I go back into the host, this setting gets reset to "Use templates of this host: ..."

Should this be saving?

FYI, This is a new install of Zabbix 1.1b6 on FreeBSD 6.0. I am able to manually add Items to a host, but shouldn't I be able to assign a template and just act/deact items from the stock templates?

I just had to do the linkage of the Host.Win32, etc to itself in the create Linkage and then all new hosts created with an assignment to the Host.Win32 template worked. Seems like this should be done out of the box in the install as it serves no purpose not having it done.
