    1.1b6 Gui, SNMP, Feature Request

    Hi,

Just installed and played around with 1.1b6 for an hour and no major problems found over b5 so far (Zabbix is running and collecting data for my previously defined hosts/items etc).

    1) Gui Cleanup: Clone/Copy ability in Items is Lost

It is no longer possible to copy an existing item to a new item. In 1.1b5 it was possible to open an existing item, make a modification (inluding new descr and key) and then select "Add" to create a new item. The "Add" and "Update" buttons have now been replaced with one button "Save". Suspect several other tabs have also lost similar functionality (e.g triggers).

Can we have a "Clone", "Copy" or "Add New" function tio Items and Triggers in 1.1b7? This was a big timesaver especially for adding lots of similar Items or testing out different Item configurations.

    2) SNMP problems disables host (in Zabbix).

Having only spent a few days with SNMP in Zabbix I'm still verifying this as a problem and workaround. I saw this behavior in b5 as well.

If an SNMP value cannot be retrieved (such as misconfiguration of OID, Community etc) then the host is marked as down (in the zabbix logs this appears as an error "Timeout while connecting to [$host_ip:$snmp_port]"

Although the host is available no more values will be collected for any other correctly defined items. The workaround seems to be to disable/delete the offending item and then (occasionaly) go to the host configuration and save the status again as "monitored".

This does seem intermittent. Sometimes the misconfigured Item will be automatically deactivated and be shown with a status of "not supported". I do not believe (yet) this is a problem with the host or host connectivity but I'm trying to track this down.

In any case, the problem in zabbix seems to be when the host is marked as "timeout" because one value is unavailable, no other values are collected from the host until the host is marked as available again. This does make sense, but is it possible for an enhancement that will make 2 or more sequential checks of any Item on a host before marking the host as unavailable?

    3) Feature Request: SNMP Calc

As you asked for any remaining Feature Requests for 1.1. I found an old request out there in the sourceforge forums for the following. I would like to add my vote for this feature:

"I'd like to know if it is possible to define calculated items using formulas (Ex. : used bandwidth, using ifInOctets, ifOutOctets, and ifSpeed), to have more "high level" items"

    thanks

I'd have to second the request for option 1... i use that a lot (even if templating is probably a better solution)

templating is a better solution, I'll confess I used that "feature" a fair amount as well.. HOWEVER, when turning this over to users who were not so zabbix-savvy with item/trigger creation.. I found a LOT of duplicate items were created by people who were just trying to edit the current ones.

renaming the add button to "add a copy" or something like that and not making it the first/default action would probably be a nice value added feature, but as I said templating is the real way to go.. if we can get it fixed that is

oh and the SNMP calc is a good thing, hell I'd love it (and for other item types than SNMP as well). but it sounds like a fair amount of work, and we already need a ton of fixes in b7 (such as the aformentioned template redesign). If the devs could impliment it quickly that would be grand, but I wouldn't want to delay b7 for this feature.. my $.02 of course

I also agree with Option 1 request. And in response to the notion that templating is the way to go.... It is very laborious to have to manually insert mulltiple values that would be otherwise the same, but only the description and mod value are changed.

By example if you want to make proc.num[name, user, state] and only expect to modify state and the description field. This time is a CRITICAL timesavings and almost reason enough for me to downgrade back to 1.1beta5 so I can finish templating before restarting again in 1.1beta6.

I also would like to request #1... I use templates almost always, but also the mentioned feature. It's a definate timesaver, especially in large corporate networks.

Exactly, I am provisioning for hundreds of systems.
