Will future alpha versions be able to read older alpha configurations?

I'm making the move from Nagios+Cacti to Zabbix. I've started with 1.9.3 so that I can use the low-level discovery features ~ as I did with Cacti.

I do not plan to rely on my Zabbix install until the build is marked as stable. However, in the mean time, I'm worried that the time I spend on 1.9.3 templates and host configuration might be lost if future versions are not able to read these configs (schema change, etc).

Should there always be an upgrade path available that will allow my configuration to work with new versions so that I do not have to start from scratch?

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Format_rot (not exactly what I mean, but close)

Firstly see to the http://www.zabbix.org/wiki/How_to/trunk_db_patches and http://www.zabbix.org/svn/zabbixorg/...emental/README and wait to Richlv's answer (i hope).

I'm a trunk user, and it's not easy

there are no official patches to move forward with trunk. as zalex_ua pointed out, there are unofficial ones, but only for mysql.

these patches are more likely to have some glitches, so having db experience and backups is useful. trunk itself also can result in data loss or be broken for extended periods of time, so testing backup recovery would also be suggested

I suppose I wouldn't have as much anxiety if I could export/import LLD templates with 1.9.3.

Thanks for the info and quick reply.

Unfortunately, we have this nice issue https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-3531
This problem started from the v 1.9.2 and still present.
