How setup dependencies in Zabbix 1.4

Hi,

I want to setup a pooling dependencies in Zabbix 1.4 if the host is down (ping failed/time out) Zabbix will stop any further/other checks like service checks or SNMP (because if the host is down no point to do any other checks so all other checks will depend on ping request = succeed.

How I can do that in Zabbix?

in configuration/triggers click on that trigger, then in line "new dependency" click [select]
next, select the trigger it should depend on, then click [add], [save]

done.

this is for triggers but what I want is something that stops Zabbix continue pooling data from a dead/down device stop querying the host.

Unfortunately that is something you cannot do. I can see both sides on wanting to add a feature like that, but I don't think adding it would be a good idea. It would add another layer of complexity to the code and may have some unintended side effects/bugs down the road. I'm all about the simple. :-)

I am not happy about implementing this. Actually I see little sense as ZABBIX "stops" (checks less frequently and the intervals are configurable!) monitoring of a device in case the device is not available. Why complicate things?

Agreed, why would you want to stop item data collection. Item data and triggers are two seperate things.

I do like the idea that (perhaps as a trigger option or something) if a host is down, all other host triggers go quiet.

@devs: how about this: add a trigger boolean (checkbox or so) which indicates that this trigger is a 'host down' thing. If such a trigger is active, all other triggers go quiet.
If a host has more than one of these 'flagged' triggers, any one of these triggers in true state will flagg the host as down and all other host triggers go quiet.
