Help adding switches

I have been going crazy trying to get the right configuration for simple checks on switches and just can't figure out what is missing. I currently have 16 Windows servers and 3 Linux servers that monitor perfectly. However they all have agents.

I have several dozen switches that I would like to ping check to see that they are alive. More information would be good but small steps for now.

I can ping the switches without problem from the Zabbix server.

The problem seems to be in adding the host.
I put in the Name, IP, connect to:IP, and zero (0) as the port. I have also tried ports 22, 23, 25, 161, 1993, 10050 but no luck.

Under Hosts it keeps coming back as:
Availability: Not available
Error: Timeout while connecting to [IP of my switch:161]
Port was set to 0

Hi,

Try:

nmap -sU -p 161 ip_of_switch

and see if port 161 is up. If not, the snmp server of switch not enable.

Can you do:

snmpwalk -c name_your_community -v 1 ip_of_switch

If not, name of SNMP community is wrong.

What template are you linking the host to when creating it? When I want a simple ping check, I use the Template_Standalone, and uncheck everything except ICMP.

Ok I added

snmp community public RO

to the switch config and the connection is made and some data comes in from the switch.

Yes I get an alarm because "Ping Check 25 Jul 14:40:31 0"

snmpwalk -c name_your_community -v 1 ip_of_switch
