    Web scenario from proxy

    I need to monitor web site response times from various locations around the world. Zabbix server located on the same site with web servers.

    Is it possible with Zabbix 1.5.3 to execute web scenarios not from Zabbix server, but from Zabbix proxies on remote hosts? Or the only way to do this is zabbix_agent + UserParameter + curl + awk etc?

    Well, from sources I found that zabbix agent supports web.page.perf which is what I actually need. With few items and remote nodes and some custom graphs/screens I was able to create something that look like "web scenario".

    But I still miss some neat features like custom user agent strings, checks for error codes etc.

      Yes, it is absolutely possible. A WEB scenario can be configured to be executed either by ZABBIX Server itself or one of Proxies.

        Er... Sorry for lame question, but is this accessible via web frontend?

        I tried to:
        1. add a proxy;
        2. add a host monitored by that proxy (works fine);
        3. create an application associated with this host;
        4. create a web scenario for this host/application.

        But new scenario still executed from Zabbix server itself, not from configured node (according to IP from log entries of web server).

          Anyone?

          I can't find this functionality either. Need to perform web scenario from proxy, but can't find anywhere in the interface to configure it as such.

            Hi,

            Its a very good question.
            Soon we'll need this (remote probe). Have u made tests putting web scenario in the 'proxy host' ?

            Now .. I'm curious about web scenarios in a ZBX Proxy.

              So .... pacience isnt my best

              We made tests and the results are the same. The webserver receive conections from ZBX-Server ...

              We use ZBX-Server 1.5.4 and ZBX-Proxy 1.6.1.

                Web scenario monitoring from zbx-proxy

                So, does anybody know how to create and run web scenario monitoring form zbx-proxy (not zbx-server)?
                Or maybe it is possible to run web scenario test form zabbix agent?
                regards

                  I also am trying to get web monitoring going from a proxy. Does anybody have any idea how to get the proxy to retrieve the web page, instead of the server? We have firewalls that block web access from the main server.

                    Web scenario monitoring from zbx-proxy

                    As I know you can do this using zabbix-node. Zabbix proxy will be able to test http web scenario in next stable release probably.

                    Regards grejer

                      Thanks, now I need to blow away my proxy and build a node, so I can do the web monitoring. I won't hold my breath for the proxy web monitoring, it was supposed to be in the last release, also.

                        So, is it possible in the latest (1.6.6) version?

                        I have a web-site beyond a proxy and I need to monitor it. There is no direct connection from Zabbix Server to that web-stie (since it is in private network), only Zabbix Proxy has the connection.

                          Yes, it's possible !
                          Tested today (Oct, 15th) with RedHat 5.1/MySQL 5.0.77 (from ourdelta.org) on the
                          server and CentOS 5.3 on the proxy with SQLite3 (running in a VBox on Windows 2003).

                          HTH,

                          Norbert.

                            Norbert, I am afraid you are wrong. It is not implemented yet, even in 1.7.

                              Adding proxy support

                              Because Zabbix uses libcurl for the "Web" scenarios, there is latent proxy support, assuming you always want to go through a single proxy and it does not require authentication.

                              I added FULL web proxy support to Zabbix 1.6.5, total of less than 100 new lines in "httptest.c". Would be just as easy to add the code to the latest version, where do I submit the patch?
