    Sooooo, that fixed the issue?

You might also want to note you are running 1.6.1 Server and the latest stable release is 1.6.4.
You are also running 1.4.4 agents. I was doing the same, and just updated my agents to the 1.6.4 version. I'm not sure what the differences are in the agents, or if there are in fact any. I just like being symetrical.

Did you do a compile of the source code, or did you do an apt-get install? I much prefer doing the compile.

No unfortunately I see that the main server is getting some data about the resources but still wont alert when the host is offline. Is there a setting that I am missing for that or does it even work that way through the proxy?

I did an dpkg from a pre-complied package from ubuntu this time the first server that I was testing with was a server that I complied myself. The agent was from the zabbix main download page for the windows agent. I read in the forum you can use them on a 1.6 system.

What kind of alert are you talking about? Just seeing in the GUI that the server is unreachable, or are you expecting an e-mail alert?

Instead of shutting down the NIC, just stop the zabbix agent on the host for a few minutes. You should then see in the Zabbix dashboard that it shows up as a red spot under one of the severity columns.

Yes just seeing the "server is unreachable" I have not reset up the actions on the install so I know I wont get an email. As for shutting off nic is easier due to it is a laptop that I have sitting next to me and it is just a switch to turn it on or off. When I was testing it with out a proxy it worked and it was faster. I have left it off for sevral minutes with the "server is unreachable" on the dashboard and under the host it still shows it is online

I have done some more testing this weekend and even if I compile the program or run the pre-compile version the issue is the same. The system does collect data on the hosts but the proxy does not update the "Availability" to the main server. So a better problem statement is "Proxy not updating the Availability". The proxy has been otherwise working the whole time.

I think you are describing a known "non-issue", at least according to Zabbix.

I ran into this when I was setting up new hosts to the proxy that had never reported in to the Zabbix server. It always remained in the "Not available" category. However, if I changed it to not use a proxy and report directly to the Zabbix app server, then it would change to "available". If I then re-assigned it to the proxy, it remained "available".

I reported this in a thread some time ago, and Alexei responded, but I forget what the rhyme or reason for it was.

                Edit -

This is the post I was referring to: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10704
