on a host you add an item and select as type snmp v1 or v2 or v3, and set the correct oid start with . (dot)

have you change your snmpd.conf for your use?

    the community must be public

You can also assign an SNMP template on those devices as well. I'm assuming you're trying to monitor a switch or a router?

You can download some templates here.

I've found using templates easier than some other methods. It's a bit more work, since you may have to modify the XML, and you may have to find out the OIDs from net-snmp.

If you're trying to monitor a network device, try the templates, and if you need help modifying the template I can try to assist you. I just modified the template for a Cisco 3750 48port switch to fit my needs, so I have that fresh in my head.

            First of all,

YOU DON'T NEED TO OPEN A PUBLIC COMMUNITY.

You can change the template to fit your needs

Now lets go to the trouble shooting

            First thing,

Go to your machine and try to ping your Cisco Switch

If it's pinging search your Cisco switch on Zabbix, go to the items and check all the boxes.

            Do a Mass update.

Check the box that has SNMP Community

            put your community on it.

            give an ok

Wait about 2 minutes to give your zabbix server a try to connect on the SNMP.

If it does not work tell us again...

            Thanks,
