Zabbix monitoring on Tough Network Conditions

    Hi All.

I'm new here, so I'm going to keep this clean and clear

I have a problem. My company is thinking about using zabbix to monitor our client's datacenters remotely, but there are difficulties, such as:
    • Some clients doesn't allow inbound network connection, just outbount
    • Some VPN connections are too unstable for us to rely this service on it
    • If using VPNs, we need specific routes and some clients doesn't allow this on their networks.

In a nutshell, we need to have a structure N agents X M proxys X 1 Server working without the Server -> Proxy connection, just the Proxys -> Server connection (that can be achieved through the internet).

    Is this possible?

An alternative would be: The traffic of Proxys -> Server could be through the Internet, bu the traffic Server -> Proxys could be through VPN/SSH Tunnels, because it doesn't have to be always up, so when we need to send a configuration or anything like that, we can setup the connection...

The major problem here is: Is it possible for this architecture to work without the server -> proxys connection be always up?

    Thanks everyone in advance!

yes, that is perfectly possible. actually, that is the only way to use zabbix proxies

you set up zabbix proxies on remote sites. they sit there, monitor all the servers and devices.

to know what to monitor, they connect to the zabbix server. they get config data, gather historic data and relay it to zabbix server.

if network connection goes down, zabbix proxies store gathered data (for up to one hour by default, can be increased) and transmit it whenever connection is back up again.

note that only connection that you need between zabbix server and proxy is from the proxy to the server, single port.
