    how to monitorize services

    hi all!!
i had a look at the first 10 pages of this forum but i wasn't lucky to find anything useful.
i want to monitorize services like postgres, ssh,http,etc...
i saw that you have to create an item of tipe Simple Check, and in the key field put "nameservice, port" & thats it. i did "postgres,5432" but zabbix returns "Item not supported"
what do you have to do to be able to monitorize a service??
    thanks !!

well i have been able to monitorize ssh & http, but postgres it still says Not Supported.
i also tried to monitorize some services of a printer like netbios-ssn, shell, printer, ipp, jetdirect & telnet and it says Not Supported.
to see the services i did a nmap to the device and then i just picked the string name of the service and its port number.

    Hi,

    All simple checks are documented.

You cannot use arbitrary service names.
If you want to check services that are not defined as simple checks, you can use generic tcp check with the appropriate port number:
    Code:
    tcp,5432
    should be OK for Postgres.

    Regards,
    JBo

      hi JBo!!
thanks a lot for your post. it doesn't works only with postgres also with all the other "arbitrary" services.
i had a look at that section of the user manual but i didn't know how to solve the problem.
      once again JBo thanks!!

Use telnet to monitor arbitrary tcp ports

Zabbix currently supports the following services
        Code:
ssh, ntp, ldap, smtp, ftp, http, pop, nntp, imap, tcp, https, telnet
You may be able to use telnet for unsupported services. For example, I wanted to monitor an arbitrary port and ended up creating an item of type simple check with a key of

        Code:
        net.tcp.service[telnet,8140]
Considering that your post is two years old, you have probably reached at the same conclusion yourself!

        Regards,
        jk04

          Bom dia,
