Zabbix w/External Servers

I wondered whether someone could offer me some advice.

Our Zabbix Monitoring is located within our Data Centre on a virtual server, within it's own subdomain (10.100.100.x). It currently monitors our internally hosted servers (also on the same subdomain, 10.100.100.x).

I have been advised that Zabbix is unable to monitor servers which are on seperate domain, and/or outside of our network.

Surely there must be some way of making zabbix externally facing to allow us to monitor our managed service clients. We currently also have a DMZ within the data centre, so there is the possibility of moving it within the DMZ for security.

Any thoughts or suggestions, or advice on anybody else who has had this type of issue, greatfully appreciated.

if they can get to the outside world then maybe active checks agents?

zabbix proxies might be a solution for your problem (although i'm not sure what the problem exactly is, you didn't specify what should be monitored and what the network connectivity restrictions are )

For http://tribily.com we do exactly that: the zabbix server is facing externally, and all our client's servers are fully active agents that send their data our way. That works quite well so far, and as a bonus scales nicely too
