    Monitoring a switch ?!?! :(

    Hello everybody

I have problems with zabbix & monitoring a switch.

I am not a specialist so i need information for a beginner ;-)

For a project for school I have to monitor a Cisco Catalyst 3500 XL switch. I have read a lot of in the internet but nothing could help me

I want to do easy things like a poll ore monitor the CPU free capacity.

My problem is, I dont know how does it works. I have read that I need a "OID" and MID Tables.

The first Problem is how does I get this fucking OID????

Than I have to know how I import the MID tables, that Zabbix could interpret the output from the OID.

Could you help me ? Do you know what I mean? :-D And sorry for my bad English

    Greetings from germany

    Hi,

Have you read SNMP part in Zabbix documentation ?

You should become familiar with snmp command line tools, specially snmpwalk and snmpget in order to find relevant OIDs.

Also, Zabbix comes with a few SNMP host templates.
You can check Template_SNMPv2_Device to see how a SNMP item is configured.

    Regards,
    JBo

Sorry but if you only need to do monitoring of one device, zabbix may be a bit to big to start with in my opinion.
Maybe take a look at some small tools like:
Explore a wide range of IT monitoring tools from SolarWinds. Enhance the performance with robust, easy-to-use software solutions.

But please return to zabbix when you need more monitoring
      /Erik
