Zabbix Appliance in production

I’ve just played with Zabbix 2.0.6 on virtual machine and must say quite impressed the product. I wish to get more templates for latest Microsoft software and have clear instruction how to monitor cisco routers on remote site like with active agent for servers (maybe somebody could help me) but a part of this I really like Zabbix.

However I’m Microsoft not Linux engineer so installing monitoring software on linux is quite problem for me. Especially that I managed to install it on Ubuntu but found only version 1.8 is integrated. So I would like to use preconfigured virtual machine. But “You can use this Appliance to evaluate Zabbix. The Appliance is not intended for serious production use at this time.” On the website. Why is it? Do I really have to install it manually on production? If so, could you point me to clear instruction how to do this with version 2.0.6 for dummies please?

You can cut and paste these instructions


If you use Debian, take note that the latest version is wheezy. You need to use squeeze which is the previous version (but still supported and widely used)

I've just wander, is it on version 2.0 or 2.0.6?

Actually I see what you mean, the instructions are for the zabbix 2.0 version(s) but the way debian works is that even with those instructions, the latest stable version 2.06 will be installed.

after you have followed the instructions, type zabbix-server -V to get the version info and you will see 2.06 is installed.

I’m really frustrated. Installed the server on CentOS 6.4 – couple of times (rebuilding it!) using different procedures (including: http://www.sysads.co.uk/2013/06/inst...rver-packages/).

Every time when I finish and login to website, I’m getting error: “Zabbix server is not running: the information displayed may not be current.”
My server logs (zabbix_server.log) doesn’t show any error, I’ve check configuration of server name couple of times and no luck!

Any advice please? I have no such problem when I used already configured virtual machine!.

Just found solution

setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=true

Fixed my problem
