I want map to show ON/OFF icons depending on simplecheck icmpping item, or any other item. Is it possible?

Yes its possible
Create trigger with the icmpping for a host and in maps created a connection using "Link status indicator" . It will on and off according to the trigger value
For using icmpping you have to install fping (yum install fping).

Difrent icon for host up/down

So you can choose an icon for any state of host

How can type of ICON (ON/OFF) be linked with some triger or host's item, icmpping for example?

In map OFF icon shows the status while the trigger is not true(means if you create a trigger using icmpping.last(0)=0 {assume green for up status server and red for down status server} then you have to give green as an OFF icon and red as ON icon). This will show you green when the server is up and will show you red when the server is down. Create a link with another host using the trigger you created for the host

I believe it "links" with all of that host's triggers. If any of its triggers fire, it changes the image.

BTW, I would like to see functionality to only change the status image for triggers above a certain priority.
