    Maintenance Periods - Active Checks

    Hey Awesome people!

    I've been using Zabbix for about a year now and find it quite brilliant.
    As I'm sure many of you know, the best way to monitor a couple of hosts at a remote site is by way of Active Checks via a template configured so.

    Well, we have just that, a bunch of pre-existing templates (Windows, Linux, a couple of custom ones) which we have placed into "Active" mode and gleefully watch the data flood in etc.

    The difficulty we have is when one of those servers is rebooted for maintenance etc.

    Now normally, as far as I'm aware, a normal ZABBIX=>HOST check would dutifully silence itself during a given maintenance period (found in CONFIGURATION/MAINTENANCE menu) but, and do pleeeeeaaaase tell me if I'm wrong, if the Agent is reporting in ACTIVE mode, this maintenance window appears to be ignored and data is still obtained and email alerts still get pushed out based on triggers.

    What say you?

    Thanks in advance!

    Interesting question. I'm also interested into that. Maybe we need to try it out ...

      Hi,

      normally for a maintenance there is no difference, so in both cases the maintenance should work, but you need a condition in your action to only fire up when a host is not in maintenance.

      regards

        Does that mean that the maintenance status and it's time window is actively submitted to the zabbix agent?

        E.g. does the frontend display failed triggers for gathered item data via active checks while a monitored host is in maintenance?

        The condition "host is not in maintenance" is of course used in notification alerts so there won't be any mails or alerts.

        And what is the difference of "with or without data collection" for active checks? Do they get executed or not?

          no, the agent dos not know anything about the maintenance

          yes

          correct

          i not know exactly , but i assume the checks are not executed.

            That sounds like it makes sense

            But I have a problem; my "Actions" are empty save for a couple of 'autoregister' items - most of the notifications we get are fired from triggers in templates. Is there a default setting for them or will I need to go to a specific place within the trigger to specify the 'Only notify if NOT in maintenance mode..' ...etc?

            Thanks again!

                Yea I knooow...

                I immediately found it after sending that last post. I tried to say so but the Zabbix forum went offline for a good hour or so yesterday!
                It was embarassingly obvious when I looked closer.

                All confirmed working fine, no emails received when I set up a test maintenance entry, then adjusted my notification Action from the default AND/OR to just AND for the two conditions that were already present;

                A= maintenance Status not in "maintenance"
                B= Trigger Value = "PROBLEM"

                Thanks!
