I'm RHEL, but / used 14G (make it 20G for free space). I don't separate /etc or anything but /boot and /var/lib/mysql. The size of the database will depend on your volume, but yon can probably start with 20G. Use LVM, it will grow on you :-)

      Hi

      /boot - no LVM, just 512MB, ext4
      / - LVM, start with 10G, ext4
      /var - LVM, start with 10G, ext4
/var/lib/mysql - LVM, perfectly - separate LUN if VM or SAN/DAS, 100G, xfs (exact size may differ for your needs to store history/trends)
/mnt/backup - LVM, 200G, xfs (you need place to make backups, rotate them and prepare)
