Zabbix Agent VS SNMP

Hi There,

I have try to find SNMP functions on zabbix i was not able find exact informations.
Can i know how to,
configure SNMP on Ubuntu server and monitor using zabbix
And i would like to know Zabbix agent vs SNMP functions?
Can we use Zabbix agent and SNMP both at same time?

You can monitor one host with both Zabbix agent and SNMP. Create both the Zabbix agent interface and the interface for SNMP in the host configuration.
Check the values that can be obtained from SNMP server on Ubuntu server using snmpwalk command etc on Zabbix server. If you know the OID of the value you want to get, create an item of type SNMP Agent.

If properly configured, SNMP monitoring is also possible. What and how did you determine that you can not monitor with Zabbix?

- Can you get the value from snmpd by snmpwalk command?
- Have you added a host SNMP interface?
- Did you create an SNMP item?
- Is the community name the same as the one set in snmpd?

Please tell me in detail what kind of state it is.

If you tell me the distribution and version of the OS you are using, I may be able to try and show the steps if I have an environment that I can obtain.

That method looks like it sets up the host SNMP interface, but you still need to create the SNMP item as well as provide Zabbix the community string. I haven't done this myself, so I don't know the details yet. If you provide the information Atsushi requested, you have a good chance of getting step by step instructions (they are usually really good from what I have seen with the step by step provided for other issues I have run across).

- Is the community name the same as the one set in snmpd? Yes Communit String is Same

But SNMP not showing an any error, it still grayed like not configured. If it works it should Green otherwise it should Red.

Yes problem is this isn't a network device it's Linux Server. We need SNMP as backup if something happens to Zabbix Agent. Previously we have faced this issue zabbix agent got disable after restart the server.

What about SSH checks? They are agentless and sound more suitable to monitor server, while not using an agent.

Yes problem is this isn't a network device it's Linux Server....

This *should* be irrelevant (though I realize it often isn't as irrelevant as it should be). Can you confirm the SNMP is working normally? Are you able to use other tools to access it? Seems to me that snmpwalk should be able to read it if everything is working correctly; so that leads me to think that it is likely not fully/correctly configured. Perhaps something as simple as SELINUX or a firewall blocking SNMP ports on that machine, for example? Or perhaps some sort of configuration error that is preventing the SNMP from reporting normally? At this point, it is more of a trouble isolation issue before we can determine what the problem is.

Of course, lagavazzz provided one alternative that should work. I have another that seems to work okay for us -

I use the pre-built agent monitor and trigger if Zabbix sees the agent as down/not responding. (Template Zabbix Agent).
