    Zabbix 2.2 Migration to 5.2

I have a Zabbix 2.2 installation that has been running for several years with no upgrades. I want to upgrade to 5.2 but the Ubuntu version on the 2.2 box is 12.04 which isn't supported in 5.2.

I built a new Ubuntu 20.04 VM and successfully installed Zabbix 5.2 server. My question is ... Can I migrate my database and configuration from the 2.2 server to the new 5.2?

    Thanks!

I'll try that. Snapshot, clone, upgrade and test. As long as Zabbix 5.2 can run on Ubuntu 12.x

cyber ... I tried to do the release upgrade on the Zabbix 2.2 server from 12.xx to 14.xx and it clobbered all of the "Zabbix MySql" stuff.

I was hoping I could do a database dump and import into the new server. Do some sort of 2.2 to 5.2 schema upgrade yada yada

What do you mean with "migrate db and config" Doing export of hosts and templates? And them importing? that would not transfer data... And there are definitely db changes between versions...
If you want to keep all the data... docs say, direct upgrade is possible..
        Direct upgrade to Zabbix 5.2.x is possible from Zabbix 5.0.x, 4.4.x, 4.2.x, 4.0.x, 3.4.x, 3.2.x, 3.0.x, 2.4.x, 2.2.x and 2.0.x

so maybe you can clone your current 2.2 to run on that new host and do direct upgrade?

I was more thinking that way, that you try to install 2.2. on that 20.04... copy over all the db files etc... make that 2.2 work on new platform and then upgrade Zabbix... 5.2 will not run on old 12.04... Or maybe clone the initial host and try to do upgrade from 12.04 to 20.04, while trying to keep that zabbix instance running... and when through all that pain you end up with somewhat working instance of latest and greatest, then try to move over to fresh platform, copying over just the DB, as everything else can probably installed easily.
Sounds really nasty to myself also.. :P

I suppose those scripts to do db upgrades might be somewhere in the guts of installer..
But you might be better of with paying a bit to Zabbix and let them do it.. :P I have done it years ago when going from 1.8 to 3.. it wasn't terribly expensive affair.
