Upgrade or new install?

Hi, we are currently running zabbix server 4.x and wish to use the latest 5.x version.
We are also moving this to a new server, so what is the best method?

Do i ...
1) Recreate v4 on new server then run upgrade.
2) Create a new clean v5.x and then migrate items from v4 (is this even possible).

Any input would be appreciated.

depends if youd like to keep history ..if not new installation is better in my opinion and transfer all non-standard templates, settings, etc

you could also install version 4.x on new server - connect it to the old DB and do the upgrade to 5.x - this way you'll keep the history data and settings too
