Simple PING/ICMP check

Hi

Can anyone please explain me (step-by-step for dimmies :-)) how to confiugre Zabbix appliance for simple ICMP check ?
I have configured e-mail and SMTP settings, but can't find how to configure host (when adding a new host there is only option for adding IP for agent monitoring ?

I want to achieve that Zabbix will monitor one host (without agent) with simple ICMP:
- sending ping in time interval of 5 minutes to a certain IP
- if there is no ICMP response, Zabbix will send me an e-mail

How can these be configured, what are the steps to do this ?

hi which steps did you able to make it.can you able to send a simple icmp ping on zabbix ? did you ask for only sending mail ? be more specifig please

I didn't do anything. I tried to add a host but can't add IP since it wants me to add ip for monitoring during zabbix agent.
I just need to add a host that need to be monitored via ICMP and sends me an email when this host is not reachable ?

Thank you this video helped me to get this working.
I have another problem, warning are displayed on monitor but e-mails are not sent to configured users. I did all as described in manual, but under Events-Action I see under Actions status FAILED.

I've looked at the video, and followed various guides how to get it working, sorted out the

shell> chown root:zabbix /usr/sbin/fping
shell> chmod 4710 /usr/sbin/fping
Also check, if user zabbix belongs to group zabbix by running:

shell> groups zabbix

from https://www.zabbix.com/documentation.../simple_checks

groups zabbix throws zabbix : zabbix

And, I know that fping/6 resides under /usr/sbin...

Still the log tells me that "at least one of '/usr/sbin/fping', '/usr/sbin/fping6' must exist. Both are missing in the system.


(and fping works from the shell, and the server has been restarted numerous times)

The group name is zabbixs....in my prepackaged virtual appliance.
