How can I use SNMP in Zabbix

Hello All, Hope you are fine. I'm new to Zabbix. I went through documentation to see that I can use SNMP for monitoring SNMP-enabled devices in Zabbix. But at one point, the documentation says that "To be able to retrieve data provided by SNMP agents on these devices, Zabbix server must be initially configured with SNMP support." Following the given link, I assume that the source must configured with SNMP support and then compiled for SNMP support to be available in Zabbix. I want to know whether the Zabbix Packages available for Ubuntu comes with SNMP support enabled or not. I have installed Zabbix on Ubuntu using Zabbix Package as directed on Zabbix Packages page in download section. I've tried to add Zabbix server using SNMP agent, but the SNMP Availability column is greyed out and hovering over it shows its Status as Unknown. The SNMP on underlying Ubuntu server is working, I've tested that using snmpwalk. Please help me in this regard.

    Thanks,

if you installed with apt it has support for snmp. In the item you created it should be possible to see the reason why it is failing.

Did you add any items to that host, which are of type "SNMP...." ?Just configuring interface does not give you anything.

Even with SNMP you need to have a template applied to the host. Try adding the Linux OS SNMP template to your monitored host entry in your Zabbix server and see if any values are returned.

You can test using snmp command line tools like snmpwalk. Test from your Zabbix server (or proxy). These tools will test that snmp will respond before you go on to the Zabbix comfig.
