    Zabbix agent status shown offline

    Hi,

New here, long time Zabbix user who muddled through doing the minimal work via the Appliance but decided that I'd do this thing "properly" (i.e. proper full install - I have sysadmin'd for many years) rather than relying on the Appliance.

Clean install of Ubuntu and Zabbix 5.4. I already have some Linux machines that I've been running Zabbix agents on for some years working fine. They have imported perfectly correctly and are working 100% as expected. I have recently built myself a new PC running on M2 PCIe drives so I wanted to add those to the things I monitor. Downloaded the Windows Zabbix agent, installed and setup a user parameter in the .conf file to do some testing. This is the definition of the machine:

This is the definition of the item:

This all works - I get the data I expect and it updates every minute. However, in the host section, the ZBX icon is greyed out in the Availability column:

Whilst everything is working fine as far as data collection, I am frustrated that I can't figure out why this happens. I have read quite a few posts now and I believe I am following all the rules (passive item, host enabled etc...).

    Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks

I'm guessing you've checked all of the basic things:

Windows firewall allows traffic to and from the Zabbix server
        Zabbix Agent service is running
Checked the agent log on the Windows system

Running an nslookup from the Zabbix server resolves to the correct IP for the desktop?

Yup. The history shows everything is OK - the data comes across no problems and the host responds fine.

Kind of interesting: I just checked my Zabbix instance, and the one Windows client OS system I have set to monitor is doing the same thing! The main difference between the servers I'm monitoring is that the default Windows OS template isn't associated with the host. I'm wondering now if the Zabbix Agent Template that's linked to the OS template is what returns the status. As a test, I've added the Zabbix Agent template to my desktop system.

I can confirm: adding the Zabbix Agent template, or any template that is linked to it should give you the status of the agent in Windows.

This looks kind of weird, as whole setup is correct (and confirmed by incoming data). It should not require any template, just one passive item should be enough to turn that icon green.
Just in case, add another item, agent.ping for example.

                  Thanks so far..

Have enabled level 4 debugging in the windows Zabbix agent and I can see requests/replies.

Tried adding another item. This got the new data, but still the icon remains grey.

Added a discovery template (windows disk discovery) and applied that. I get data as you would expect, but still the icon remains grey...

Delete host, recreate it after a while, when housekeeper has done its job also... I am just throwing random things in the air here.. Hoping something hits the spot....

Tried deleting, waiting 30-40 minutes and readding. Still greyed ZBX flag

Nope. Absolutely nothing. Never mind - everything is working - just the green box isn't lit up.

                            Thanks for your help
