    Zabbix Host naming

    Hi there,

I'm currently investigating a correct way of naming my hosts. One of the challenges is to get the proxy name in the host name as we will be monitoring a lot of different sites. I found that the macro PROXY.NAME is not available to place in the Host name field.

Is there any work-around for this? How do you guys succesfully structure your different sites/host?

    Kind regards,

Why would you need proxy name in host name? Your autoregistration (I assume you use it) will use the name in agents config... hostname in zabbix and hostname in agents config have to match! you cannot just add whatever in hostname. (There is a visual name, what you can modify as you wish... but I have found it sometimes causing more issues, than its worth) . You can not use any macros in host name as long as I remember...

If monitor multiple sites, then you can create hostgroups based on sites and move hosts to correct groups. Maybe you should consider naming hosts from beginning with names reflecting sites? Something from postal code or closest airport or something...
