log monitoring item(active zabbix agent) not working

log monitoring item(active zabbix agent) is created but it is not fetching the item and zabbix symbol is also grey.
key :- log[/var/log/zabbix/zabbix_server.log]*

As per the documents for acitve agent two things are required
1) Agent hostname must match the GUI hostname.
2) Server Active entry must be there in zabbix_agent.conf
Both conditions are fulfilled in our case still its not working.


uncommented elements in zabbix_agentd.conf

1) Server=127.0.0.1
2) ListenPort=10050
3) ListenIP=127.0.0.1
4) StartAgents=5
5) ServerActive=127.0.0.1:10050
6) Hostname=NEC_zabbix
7)User=zabbix

By default Zabbix agent (active) uses port 10051. You do not need to specify this in your agentd.conf file.

ServerActive=127.0.0.1:10050

Just remove the port specification from there and you should be fine.
And if it's still not working make sure your firewall isn't blocking the port.

Port is also removed still it is not working. We have also checked firewall but still it is not working. In case when passive item is created like agent.ping(zabbix agent) then zabbix symbol is turning green.

Below is the o/p for for zabbix server and zabbix agent runing on same machine with Ubuntu 14.04 at default posrts
root@NEC_zabbix:~# netstat -nlp | grep zabbix

Is there anything which we are missing for zabbix agent active??

well shiiet, that was the only thing came in my mind. :/

I am not sure are there some differences between Zabbix server agentd_conf. file and a "normal" agentd_conf.

But just to clarify, do you see any data in "Latest data" coming from the agent?
Have you successfully managed to get active checks working on some other host?

No, data is not available in Latest data.

No, we tried to do the same on 2 different host, but with no luck.

Well if you don't have any data coming from the agent then your problem is not with active monitoring, but the whole agent/server configuration is wrong.

I suggest you to google this problem and go through the manual if you already haven't.

I didn't set up my Zabbix server so this is as far as I can help.
Maybe somebody else have better knowledge about this.

Sorry for confusion!

We can see Latest data coming up for Passive check items.
But no data is available for Active check items.

You configured agent to connect to port 10050, where agent listens. Server listens port 10051 by default. Why don't you just use default configuration file settings?

ServerActive=localhost:10051
